Types of Compressors and compressor selection

By: Grant Laidlaw (F. SAIRAC) – ACRA CEO

In the last issue we looked at the first section involving types of compressors and now move on to power supply

In areas where only limited or no electrical power is available, compressors can be driven by internal combustion engines. In this case only open type compressors are suitable. It is possible to generate power with a generating set, though, because of the high currents required to start compressors, it is often not a proposition to provide a big generator to start the compressor which then runs at reduced capacity.

Talking Technically: Compressors

By: Grant Laidlaw (F. SAIRAC) – ACRA CEO

How should you go about choosing the correct compressor for a particular refrigeration system?

Type of compressor

There are various types of compressors on the market today. All have somewhat different characteristics and as such will be used in applications where advantages outweigh the disadvantages. A reasonably accurate assessment about when the various compressors are used is based on their refrigerating capacity.

Talking Technically: Commercial refrigeration systems

By: Grant Laidlaw – ACRA Training

In the last issue I went into food preservation and in this issue we continue with commercial refrigeration systems

Rory Macnamara of Cold Chain and Grant Laidlaw from the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Academy (ACRA) introduced a concept around training the refrigeration industry. The idea uses this publication as the vehicle to achieve the dissemination of the material, with ACRA managing the material and assessments.
